Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster

Line of Duty cast members
Martin Compston are set to reprise their roles in the acclaimed crime series

The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

New Character and Intricate Plot

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.

Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.

However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
