Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Tension on the Manager

Spurs fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League at home loss of the year.

But the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next score when the keeper lost the ball far outside his box.

The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the sideline.

But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.

Moments later when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.

A particular of those booing episodes truly irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly jeered the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals can't be real Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright booing after the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other going forward."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period performance.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the next score was "completely avoidable".

"I do understand the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He's a great team player, he's a real leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning score."

'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italy national team the keeper is in his third season with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said after the match that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a error of my own, I accept accountability for that," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an more difficult challenge to climb."

He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "The team can't be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. This match is a poor defeat and it is hard to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Line'

In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the next most distant Premier League score of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on the same day.

Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to target.

Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five moments after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised none of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a little extra time. After that it was all about attempting to make the right contact and get it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Go Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the league, a shared team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

The side still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to come prior to the end of the season.

Just a single of those wins have come after Frank took over from his predecessor in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to go against you as well – the opening was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional match. Every game has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The later period was much better and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."

Spurs have been defeated in 4 straight at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He's got take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's taken a high profile job at a major team with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
