Our starting point to verify the site from which the pictures originated relied on social media reports indicating the explosion occurred on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern part of the capital city of Russia. Our analysis employed panoramic mapping services on Google Maps and the Russian search engine Yandex to match the unique yellow colour of a nearby residential complex captured in the video. Locating other structures, streetlights and the road configuration verified the exact location the pictures were taken. Additionally, we verified that the videos were recent and that the visuals had not undergone manipulated.
